One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.

We recently added a few more bottles to our liquor supply. After my friend, Rachel, made me a margarita when I was visiting her in Kansas, I decided to add tequila and triple sec. And then I saw a recipe for margaritas using cointreau. That's three more bottles. Our cabinet is pretty full. I've been experimenting on the best ratio and flavor combination.

I'm trying to figure out if alcohol goes under "groceries" or "recreation" in our budget. Thoughts?

We're having a party next weekend, and I'm flipping through the drink section of my favorite cookbook. Must plan food around beverages, right? There's a recipe for tequila mojitos which looks good, so I will make a batch this weekend to try it out. There's also one for margarita granitas. It calls for "orange liqueur." I asked Bill if that was the cointreau.

"There are three orange liqueurs," he informs me. "We have them all."

Hm. Maybe that's excessive? Actually, there are quite a bit more than three, so maybe having only three is fine.

If you're in the area, come visit. I hope you're thirsty.

And if you happen to have a tequila based summer-time drink recipe you'd care to share, please do.

As an accountant and student of the finer points of society, culture, & science, I can definitely state that: Premise One- the FDA has defined food as that which adds calories. Premise Two - my waistline proves that alcohol has calories. Conclusion: Therefore, alcohol is a food. Food is vital for survival. That is why Jesus made wine at the wedding feast. Party on!

P.S.

After losing the original & retyping it for Dad, I left out the punchline!

"Note the brilliant & flawless Aristotilian logic."

Mea culpa! Mea culpa! Mea maxima culpa!

You are making me thirsty! Margaritas are my favorite and this little bun in the oven won't make her appearance til September! Enjoy your party!

We definitely count it as food, otherwise we couldn't afford it.

I'm also a big fan of a tequila sunrise, but oddly, I more often have triple sec than I do OJ. My brothers are big fans of throwing some Grand Marnier on top of the margarita, but that is definitely a part of the recreation budget.

This post made me laugh out loud!

And, the general consensus in my house is that liquor falls under "groceries." ;-)

You guys seriously need to transfer to Ft. Carson! Then we can drink margaritas AND look at the mountains!

Mojo chicken is on the menu - thanks!

Agreed: alcohol is under groceries, although I don't want to think about the calories.

Do not have grenadine, so I can't make tequila sunrises. Maybe next month.

Adding frozen limeade concentrate to the grocery list, because I definitely want to try Barb's margarrritas.

Can't wait to share the tequila mojito recipe with you all. I slurped most of the pitcher down myself yesterday.

Blueberry Pomegranate Margarita

1oz lowland white tequila (like Herradura)
1/2 oz triple sec
1 lime
1 oz blueberry-pomegranate juice
5 fresh blueberries

Combine tequila, triple sec, juice from 1/2 lime and pomegranate juice with ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake hard and strain into glass over fresh ice. Garnish with blueberries and slice of lime.
