Where my Yankee colors start to show

My husband has to plan a reception for next month, and he asked me to look at the menus provided. Fried chicken, smothered pork chops, salisbury steak, collard greens, sweet potatoes, red beans and rice, and okra and tomatoes.

Um. (No, I did not leave out the "Y".)

Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.

Sounds good, except for the collard greens. I miss good fried chicken and pork BBQ when we are up in Maine. Yankees can't cook pig like folks in North Carolina, maybe the little piggies freeze with no fur coats!

We Have lived in the south for almost four years now and I still can't get the sweet tea thing....yuck.

Welcome to the fried, cholesterol filled South! Wait until you go out to the local diner for a "meat and three"! And sweet tea is disgusting! (And I've lived here for 15 years.)

This post and comments made me laugh out loud!! Don't you just love America? Every region of this beloved country has its own distinctive way of doing things, its own distinctive way of talking, its own distinctive food line up, its own distinctive terrain, etc. As a GRITS (Girl Raised In The South), I read Bill's menu and thought, 'Oh boy, I wish I was going'. It makes me laugh. And, yes I grew up on sweet tea but switched to the pink stuff a long time ago so my hips would fit through a door. Michelle, our food may be a little different but we sure try to be friendly. Hope you like it when you get down here.
