Middle Sister did that once!! (And I think she was 10 at the time!) I had to cut her hair to about chin-length to fix it. THEN a neighbor suggested (too late) that I slather her up with hair conditioner to help slide the brush out. Too late for you, too, I guess.
Actually, Barb, my husband very patiently managed to get the mess untangled before I got home. He's the one who took the picture. But I will remember the hair conditioner for next time...as I'm sure there will be a next time (since this wasn't the first time).
